A problem arose at the second Under 16 team event on 16 January that has prompted a clarification of the NMBL rules, a copy of which is attached.

There were two Yorkshire teams playing, both of which had acting Team Managers called in at the last minute to run the event. Another county pointed out that Yorkshire A was playing two grade 2 girls, both of whom were Under 15s. Both Yorkshire Team Managers were unaware of this and would have put one grade 2 girl into the B team, but as play had started the other county Team Managers did not agree. Yorkshire A therefore played the girls alternately. Lancashire A were a strong and determined team who went on to win the overall event.

Yorkshire Under 17 Team Manager, John Foster, sends his apologies to the Team Managers and players from all the counties for his oversight. He thought one of the girls was a grade 3 and had not realised that she had been upgraded.

Hopefully to avoid this confusion re-occurring I have made some minor amendments to the Rules about the grading and also about player behaviour and I would appreciate your comments on whether you agree that these reflect your views adequately.

On a happier note, the Under 16 doubles event is now booked at Herringthorpe for 17 July 2005. Lancashire have agreed to run the event and therefore you should let David Dunlop:david.dunlop@co-operativefinancialservices.co.uk know whether your county will be sending a team of 4x4 ( Lancs & Yorks 8x8) to the event. This is to be an end-of-season friendly & is not county orientated. I suggest also that the players should nominate a boy & girl player, from a different county than their own, as players of the tournament.

Alison Harrison
